Long Hair, Don’t Care: Proven Vitamins for Rapid Growth

Top products I used to grow long locks!

The Journey to Rapunzel-Like Hair: Vitamins I used  for Accelerated Growth.

Is your hair vanishing before your eyes? Don’t panic! You may just be lacking in essential vitamins. A year ago my hair started it’s very own  disappearing act, leaving me frustrated and scared. Before I knew it, I was running to the doctor in tears looking for answers.

Before what I call “the great thinning,” I had switched up my diet (a lot). I now know this was a huge determining factor for my hair loss.

I’m happy to report, that after months of maintaining a healthy diet, and implementing the vitamins and products below, my hair not only grew back – but did so in volumes!

Let’s Review Some Hair Growth Basics

Your hair has its own growth cycle, and there are three main phases:

Anagen (Active Growth Phase): In this phase the hair actively grows from the follicle. This phase is crucial for determining the length of your hair. Several vitamins play an important role in supporting the Anagen phase: Biotin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, & Vitamin B Complex.

Catagen Phase (Transition): Hair follicles shrink and detach from the blood supply (2 to 3 weeks). Maintaining health during this phase is important to ensure a smooth transition and readiness for the next growth cycle. Vitamins and nutrients that support this phase are: Vitamin A, C, E, Biotin, D, Zink, Iron, and Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

Telogen Phase (Resting): Hair follicles remain inactive and the old hair is shed. This phase is the “resting phase” for hair growth, when old hair is shed to make room for new growth. Vitamins and nutrients needed for this phase are: Vitamins A, C, E, D, Biotin, B Complex, Iron, Zinc, and Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

                                                >10-15% of hair follicles are in this phase at any given time

This phase lasts around 3 to 4 months

Each hair follicle operates independently, so different hairs on your scalp may be in different phases of the cycle at any one time.  Many factors affect hair growth. Your nutrition and the vitamins you take, directly impact the hair growth, as they support the entire hair growth cycle.

These are the Top Vitamins Proven to Support Hair Growth:

**Most of these vitamins need to be taken with a meal, please refer to labels when taking any vitamins. I know when I take vitamins on an empty stomach, it makes me want to toss my cookies.

Be Gentle With the Hair you Have

  • To protect the hair I had left while I was waiting for new my hair growth, I became extra diligent with the way I took care of my hair.

I maintained a regular washing cycle. My hair tends to be on the dryer-side, so I used a gentle shampoo and washed every three days.

It’s important to give your hair a break from hair dryers, curlers, and irons. I learned how to style my hair with the heatless curl sock method.

Ensure to get your hair trimmed regularly, to avoid getting split ends. When hair has split ends, the hair shaft becomes weakened and more susceptible to breakage.

Manage stress levels, stress can disrupt the normal balance of hormones in the body, and disrupt the hair growth cycle.

With some trial and error I did find my absolute favorite products that incorporated all the vitamins I needed for hair growth….

The Absolute Hands-down Products I Used that Helped me Grow my Long Locks and had all the Necessary Vitamins I Needed, were:

I used Orgain Organic Protein which contained collagen, a major component of hair. This powder was easy to add to my oatmeal in the morning and comes in a chocolate flavor (my favorite).

This Protein Powder has Collagen

A major component of hair, providing strength to the hair shaft

Amino Acids are essential for building Keratin, the protein that makes up hair strands

Contains Antioxidants, which helps protect hair from damage

Natures Bounty, Hair, skin, and nails is by far my favorite multi-vitamin to take. I have one of these bad-boys every morning. They come in gummie form, so they’re easy to chew and they remind me of candy (although don’t eat them like candy). I saw significant improvement in the length and thickness of my hair after a few months.

Each daily serving has:

Antioxidants
Vitamins E and C,
Calcium for bone health
Vitamin D for immune health
B Vitamins, provide cellular energy support by helping convert food into energy

Last, but not least Vitamin D was the main vitamin I lacked. I learned it was common for most people (43% of Americans) to have low levels of Vitamin D and I had no idea my lack of Vitamin D was the main culprit behind my hair loss. I use and trust the brand Now.

 Vitamin D3

This Protein Powder has CollagenA major component of hair, providing strength to the hair shaft
Amino Acids essential for building Keratin, the protein that makes up hair strands
Contains Antioxidants, which help protect hair from damage

These vitamins are essential to growing longer, thicker locks. They support the health of hair follicles, promote the production of essential proteins like keratin, and ensure scalp health and circulation. An Adequate diet can also minimize thinning and breakage.

Please consult a healthcare professional before starting new supplements or a new diet. I would have saved myself a lot of tears, had I consulted with a healthcare professional BEFORE I started my diet.

If you are experiencing hair thinning, please be patient with yourself. My hair did grow back longer and thicker with these supplements, but it took time (3 months) before I noticed improvement.
